The hood in the kitchen is a useful thing, it helps to get rid of unpleasant odors that are emitted during cooking, absorbs fat particles and filters the air, keeping the kitchen space clean. But when it is worn out, it will need repairs. Not everyone can afford to call the master, and if there is a minor breakdown, then everyone who understands the hood device will be able to fix it. And first you need to find out how the hood works.
Exhaust device
Such devices can be of two types:
- coal - quite simple in structure and affordable. It works on the principle of recirculation - this means that the air that has become dirty in the kitchen will be purified and then returned back to the kitchen. Carbon filters are part of such a hood;
- outlet kitchen hood. With the help of such a hood, dirty air is completely removed from the kitchen, thanks to its connection to the ventilation. Has only one filter - grease filter. If the house does not have a ventilation system, then specialists will bring the pipe out into the street.
If you use your cooker hood frequently, check that the grease filter is not dirty. It is recommended to change such a filter every four months with your own hands at home, otherwise the operation of the device will deteriorate and repairs will have to be done.
Reasons for malfunctioning
The causes of breakdowns are different. But if your device has been in operation for more than ten years and has recently not worked, then the service life has expired and you should purchase a new kitchen hood, and do-it-yourself repairs will not help here.
But if the hood did not have time to serve for a long time and has already begun to fail to cope with its functions or does not work at all, then you need to determine the cause of the breakdown in order to make repairs with your own hands.
- Illiterate use of a cooker hood. The strainer must be cleaned every three weeks. Change the charcoal filter twice a year. It is also forbidden to turn on the device over the stove on which the fire is on, if there is no pot on it, since hot air damages the device and then it will be difficult to restore it. Use the hood correctly - you need to turn it on for some time (about a few minutes) before cooking, and turn it off 15 minutes after you have finished cooking. If you do not follow these rules, then the fan will not be able to handle the volume of vapors, and a bad smell will be emitted in the room.
- Contacts may be cut off. When the system is working, it vibrates, which can break bad contact. But this happens quite rarely.
- Incorrect installation. The wires were not connected well or the corrugation (duct) was bent.
- Disconnection of electrical wiring. The outlet does not work or the circuit breaker is knocked out.
Take note of the above causes of breakdowns so that in the future there will be no such problems, and there is no need to resort to repairs.
Do-it-yourself breakdowns
- Malfunctioning engine or backlight. To fix the problem, you need to check the machines in the electrical panel and the voltage level in the outlet. If there are no problems, you need to check the power in the terminals, as the cord may be damaged. If the limit switch does not work, then adjust it.
- The backlight works, but the engine is faulty.If the common contact is burned out on the first button of the block, then no speed will work. If you replace the button block or re-solder the burned-out contact, then the breakdown will be eliminated. If the contact is lost or the wire falls off, you need to re-enable the connectors.
- The engine makes sounds but does not run. The fuse could have blown, most often it is ceramic. The engine should definitely be disassembled with your own hands in order to identify the cause of the breakdown. To repair the engine with your own hands, you need to ring its windings. The sound should come from the starting and working windings, regardless of the type of activation. If everything is fine there, then the capacitor is broken.
- Backlight defective. It is required to install new lamps, check their performance. In incandescent lamps, the breakdown may be in the button that turns on the backlight. Transformer burns out in halogen lamps. The ballast breaks in fluorescent lamps. A breakdown of the power button or a contact collapse can be in any lamp.
- If any speed is out of order, it means overheating on the track board, or the button just broke. In some cases, the speeds are switched using a balancing capacitor, if it breaks down, then problems will arise.
In a kitchen hood, the engine can also burn out, but such cases are rare. If this does happen, repairing the hood will cost half the cost of the device itself.
Other malfunctions or breakdowns can be eliminated very easily, and it is possible to repair them at home.
