How to make high-quality ventilation yourself

Installing the chimney

In order to protect your family and yourself from unpleasant odors in the apartment, as well as excess moisture and fats they contain, if you have the most ordinary ventilation, you can install a hood in the wall facing the street. Such artificial exhaust ventilation in the apartment will provide deep purification of the air in the kitchen, while natural ventilation clearly cannot cope with it, and there is no desire to open windows in frosty winter.

How to make a cooker hood in an apartment with your own hands

Making good ventilation yourself is easy. The first step for her is a decent hood. It is enough for her to buy a fan with a check valve that does not let air from the street, a plastic pipe with a diameter equal to the fan and a plastic ventilation grill for installation from the front side. The following steps are described step by step on how to make this part of the ventilation of the apartment with your own hands:

  • Draw a circle on the wall so that it is a couple of cm larger than the diameter of the pipe;
  • Using a punch, drill holes in a circle and in the middle;
  • Use a hammer and a chisel to grind the hole for free passage of the pipe;
  • Place the pipe in the hole and attach the fan to it. Fill the voids with polyurethane foam;
  • Make sure that the pipe is located exactly on all sides and does not bend;
  • Lead an electric cable to the hood in advance and install a switch for it;
  • As the polyurethane foam dries, cut off its excess and putty inside and outside with appropriate putties;
  • Install the grill on the front side so that the hood is protected and firmly in the wall.

Supply and exhaust ventilation for an apartment

Competently selected and professionally mounted ventilation is much preferable to any air conditioner or sophisticated split system that works only with the air that is in the room, without changing its composition in any way.

Whether it is a modern supply and exhaust ventilation for an apartment that meets building codes and regulations (SNiP) in terms of air renewal inside living rooms at least once every 1.5 hours.

Of course, the housing stock of our country was built with just such a calculation, and the exhaust duct (in the kitchen, in the bathroom and in the toilet) and external fences for air infiltration had to provide this rate of air turnover. However, with the advent of mass production and the growing popularity of plastic windows, sealed doors and insulating walls, the process of natural ventilation has become very difficult. And the communal service, as you know, is not always eager to monitor the traction and timely cleaning of the air outlets.

There are some more reasons, besides the ones voiced, for which the installation of supply and exhaust ventilation in the apartment is really required, and urgently.
