The chiller and the air conditioner are connected by piping. The connection is made according to two schemes: two and four-pipe. In the first case, one refrigeration machine performs cooling and heating. The second option requires a separate heater and circulation pump.

Each fan coil unit is equipped with an individual piping that regulates its performance.

Principle of operation

There is a heat exchanger inside the block, in the tubes of which cold or hot water (ethylene glycol mixture) circulates depending on the season. A fan blows air out of the room through it. Forced circulation changes the room temperature.The air is heated or cooled to a predetermined value, controlled by a thermostat. Supply air is added to the duct air conditioners-closers. In the process of work on the equipment, condensation occurs, flowing into a special sump. The removal of moisture is carried out by a drainage pump into the sewer network.

  • The heat exchanger is a copper tube assembly with brazed aluminum fins. The connection to the pipeline is made with couplings. The coil has air release valves when filling the system.
  • A fan that circulates air. In low-power equipment, tangential-type units are installed, operating with low noise levels. Medium and high performance units are equipped with centrifugal fans. The impeller is statically and dynamically balanced. A common version of an electric drive for switching on is asynchronous three-speed electric motors for fan coil units powered by a single-phase network. The motor has an anti-vibration mount. Brushless DC motors help reduce power consumption and noise levels. The new drive reduces friction losses and smoothly regulates the fan operation.
  • The filter cassette is a replaceable frame-type element installed in the housing guides. The air supplied to the heat exchanger is cleaned by a filter. The device is a frame with synthetic material (polyester, polyurethane). Fan coil filters are a replaceable accessory. During the operation of the unit, they catch dust and become dirty. The unit needs periodic cleaning, otherwise the air condition in the room will deteriorate. After the expiration of the recommended period, the filters are replaced.
  • Control unit (built-in or remote). The device regulates the fan rotation speed, changes the operating modes, sets the temperature parameters. Fan coils are controlled manually or using a thermostat. For wall and cassette models, the best choice is an infrared remote control. Precise regulation is ensured by wall-mounted control units and a built-in thermostat for the fan coil unit.

Strapping and installation details

The connection of the air conditioner-closer to the hydraulic module is carried out using mixing units. Valves for air bleeding and heat carrier removal are offered ready-made. Other parts of the harness are assembled separately. A balancing valve is installed for hydraulic balancing of the system. Its installation is optional.

Valves

Connecting the fan coil unit to the water supply system requires the installation of a piping unit. The kit includes:

  • seat valve made of brass or steel with open / closed function;
  • electric servo drive;
  • branch pipes for connection to pipes;
  • mud filter;
  • shut-off valves;
  • thermometer, manometer.
Fan coil unit

A mixing valve (two-way or three-way) is a device that regulates the flow of the heat carrier. The control is carried out using a servo drive and a locking mechanism. The element is selected according to its throughput. The fan coil valve is available in two types:

  • with quantitative regulation of water supply;
  • thermostatic mechanisms that change the temperature of the coolant, mixing it with the contents of the return line.

In the "open" position, the valve ensures the movement of the coolant to the heat exchanger. A signal from the control panel actuates a spring rod with a lock washer, which closes the main line. In the “closed” position, the coolant flows through the bypass line.

Additionally, the harness is completed with measuring instruments. The unit is located on the left or right side of the air conditioner-closer. Installation is carried out taking into account the rules:

  • The diameters of the pipelines correspond to the cross-section of the heat exchanger fittings.
  • All lines and piping units must be thermally insulated.
  • The connection of valves or flexible pipes to the fitting is done with two wrenches.

Fan coil plenum - part of the air conditioning system installed on the indoor unit to supply air to the heat exchanger and distribute it in the room. The part is made of galvanized steel. The adapter allows you to connect an air duct and a duct air conditioner-closer. When installed at the inlet, the plenum is equipped with filters. There are adapters with air dampers or valves. Depending on the fan coil design, plenums are made for each unit. An additional option is the device of a technological hatch.

For the convenience of connecting the air conditioner-closer and the pipeline, not only piping with propylene fittings is used. Fan coil hose is a stainless steel tube with brass fittings at both ends. The plastic connecting element is durable and can withstand water hammer. The quick-connect metal hose is suitable for cold and hot water. Rubber insulating cover prevents heat loss and condensation. Flexible hose is useful in areas with vibration.
